Workshops
In addition to the 90 minute tours, a number of exciting workshops for different age groups are on offer for school classes and other childrens’ and youth groups visiting the “Blickachsen 7“ open-air exhibition. They can be booked through Galerie Scheffel on 0 61 72 – 2 89 06.
Primary level and Secondary level I
The „Skin of Things“ – Frottage and Collage in the Park Max Ernst was one of the first artists to discover the possibilities of frottage (rubbing structures onto paper) and collage (re-ordering, or sticking together, different components into a new whole) as forms of artistic expression. We will follow in his footsteps. Pupils will have the opportunity to explore specific sculptures and their structuration through frottage. Trees and stones will also be examined, as natural sculptures, for the structuration of their surfaces. The resulting frottages will afterwards be coloured in with crayons and turned into artworks themselves by the application of stuck-on found pieces. A Journey of Discovery through the Park
Following an introductory tour, pupils will go on a paper-chase through the park. In teams they will have to solve a variety of exciting problems. Difficult questions will need to be answered. The children will explore the materials, size and spatial relations of the sculptures. In some of the tasks they will have to think up a story, in others find out the opinions of visitors to the park. In the process they will discover a great deal about the artists and their works.
Secondary level I and II
Form and Light / Drawing the Sculptures in Charcoal and Chalk The aim here is to use „Blickachsen“ to learn how to look more clearly and find new perspectives and ways of seeing. Drawing the exhibited works creates an awareness of composition, points of emphasis and proportion. The immediate surroundings of the works, and the changing play of light on their surfaces are also important in the way they are represented: some of the sculptures demand to be captured through fine, precise lines, others by an expressive stroke. Some are best seen close up, others from a distance – together with the scenery surrounding them. Pantomime in the Sculpture Exhibition
First, selected works from the exhibition are presented and background information given. Then the pupils, in small groups, represent a sculpture of their choice in the form of a pantomime. Abstract sculptures are also chosen. The other participants have to guess which sculpture is represented. What is exciting here is the subjective experience of the sculpture, and the way it is translated into mime. Is the sculpture itself being represented, its function in the park – or an individual association? Man and Art / Sculpture and Theatre
In this workshop the park serves as a stage. Starting with Hanneke Beaumont’s work „Melancholia I“, we will explore body language in terms of posture, gesture and facial expression. The spaces between the individual parts of the work also play an important role. We will examine the effects of nearness and distance through theatrical performance exercises. Finally the participants, working in small groups, will develop a story starting from, or ending with, the representation of „Melancholia“. The Story of Narcissus and Echo
In the ponds of the Kurpark and Schlosspark Vera Röhm has created an installation on water which tells a story: that of Ovid’s account of „Narcissus and Echo“. The text fragments can only be read from certain angles. Nonetheless the story as a whole remains unclear to those who are not already familiar with it. In small groups the children and young people will first collect the text fragments and try to construct their own story out of the pieces. It should play out in the Kurpark. The art works on display, visitors to the park, or even the artists who have made the sculptures can have a role. Afterwards the children will mark out the main locations in the story, using branches, stones or gravel etc. In their presentation they will conduct a tour for the whole group through the park. Finally they will each receive a copy of the story of „Narcissus and Echo“. The workshops can also be booked in combination with one of the Tours for children and school classes.
The workshop fee for up to 30 children/pupils + accompanying adults is 90 Euros for 90 minutes. If there are more than 30 participants the group will be split. The fee for a workshop preceded by an introductory tour (each 90 minutes) is 140 Euros. Information and reservations on 0 61 72 – 2 89 06 Workshops can be cancelled without charge up to 24 hours before the scheduled time. Thereafter a cancellation fee of 30 Euros will apply.
